Meditation and Prayer

The Featured Reading this month from Eric Butterworth illustrates one of the principle Ideas in Unity concerning prayer.   We have often been taught to pray to a Being out there to get this Mighty Being to change the world and circumstances to suite our desires and needs.  But in Unity we teach that prayer is really aligning our thoughts and feelings with the presence of God in us and allowing that presence to work through us to manifest the good that God is from the essence of our being as the very good that we desire.  God doesn't answer prayer by making everything and everyone different.  God doesn't really answer prayer by making us different for that matter.  It is in focusing our thoughts to vibrate in harmony with the good that already exist for us in our essence that allows us to then see that good (God) in our experiences.  In a very real sense, prayer is removing the blinders from our own heart to be able to see the presence of God in us and manifesting in the world through the form or experience that can most meet our hearts desire and needs in that moment.  That which ultimately meets our hearts desires and needs is the very experience we most want-- to be our true essence.  In Unity we call this the Christ within. Christ is that consciousness within us from which the Divine expresses itself.  It expresses itself in ever richer ways as we allow the beliefs, thoughts and emotions of the past to dissolve and experience our Self here and now as our wholeness.  We come more in alignment with this Christ essence through meditation or "Sitting in the Silence".   Meditation allows us to release our identification with outer form to experience our Christ essence.   Prayer allows us to align our thoughts, emotions and beliefs to be in harmony with that Christ essence.  From this we become instruments of that Christ light shining in our world.  This is meditation and prayer in it's highest form. Meditation and prayer are 2 sides of the same coin of an awakening consciousness.

Blessings

Tony

 Featured Reading
"The Cosmic Counterpart"
from The Universe is Calling by Eric Butterworth

Jesus clearly said, "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him" (Matt. 6:8). The implication is, "Why ask?" This leads to one of the most challenging points in the entire prayer process: Don't ask . . . claim your good. Affirm the truth. God, the whole of God-mind, is ever present. God is always centered in you. You need to become centered in God.
Now the question might be asked, and it should be, "If prayer is a science, then why isn't my prayer always answered?" This is like asking, "If there is a principle of electrical energy, why doesn't the light come on every time I throw the switch?" But what if the bulb is burned out?  Or there is a break in the circuit? Or the appliance is unplugged? We are told, "Before they call I will answer."' In an orderly universe, the need and its answer are always one. We live and move and have our being in infinite mind, a veritable "mind field." In the transcendence of mind, the answer to any need is present and follows as does four from two plus two.
This is what I call "your cosmic counterpart." It is very much like a mystical shadow. There is a whole of you that is present in the energy field that you are, even in a partial expression of you. There is an allness even within illness, an all-sufficiency in any seeming insufficiency.
